Snow and Sewing

Well we woke up to white world this morning! Well, the snow didn't even cover the grass entirely, but it was still beautiful.

Walking!

This was a Christmas present from my dad to Bill a couple years ago.

I know what I can do on a snow day....SEW! I was planning on sewing today anyways, but it was nice being able to look out the window and see a beautiful silent neighborhood.

I wanted to make a bag for my cousin Karen, she has always been so generous to paint me beautiful pictures, I wanted to do this for her in return. We went to JoAnn Fabrics a few nights ago and she got to pick the fabric out.  There were so many to choose from I couldn't say "No" to all of them! I quickly decided to make one for my girlfriend Hilary, as it was her birthday this week.

I wish it was as easy as just sewing two pices of fabric together, but NO....it's not. HOURS later, this is what we got:

This will be for Hilary. I hope she likes it, I think it's my favorite so far.
The inside was suppose to be all white, but I ran out of fabric, good thing because I like the blue pocket better!

This is Karen's, I made the handle a little longer.
I really like the green ceramic button she picked out, great choice of colors Karen!

I really had a great time today, now what to do with the rest of my day? Laundry?? Grocery shopping?? Back to JoAnn Fabrics????? :D

First "real" sewing project

Growing up, Mom always seemed to be sewing something. Us girls had a few projects with the machine too. I think the last time I used it was in high school when I made a few skirts (one which I still wear) and that was more than 10 years ago. I decided last month to try some sewing again.

I borrowed a machine and made some cloth wipes for a pregnant friend.

I had SO much fun with this simple idea that I knew I had to find something else to do.

I was at Joann Fabrics with no intention of beginning a new project, but I spotted a pattern for a bag and decided that I could ALWAYS use a new purse :) I had a pretty hard time figuring out what fabric I liked, there are soooo many cute styles to choose from!

The pattern was straight forward for the most part until I got to the second to the last step. I was very confused and frustrated, I just wanted to finish it!!!! After begging for insight from a more experienced sew-er than I, I was able to get it figured out.

THE FINAL PRODUCT!

Cute, eh? :) I can't wait to make another!

Exploring Newberg

I decided to spend a little time with my brother and walk around his little town of Newberg, Oregon.
It's a really neat place to walk around, there are a lot of great buildings, different colors and lots of bricks, very visually pleasing.
This is the old theater in the town, they also have a drive-in.

Nick is showing us here how wonderfully he poses.

There is a really neat pet store, you can touch a lot of the animals, they even have a huge turtle roaming the place.

The sunset from the hills above Newberg was spectacular.

A beautiful end to a great day!

THE BEGINNING

Being new to blogging I'm not sure exactly what to say.  I really enjoy reading friends and family blogs here on blogspot, and thought I might do my part as well.

Bill and I have enjoyed having our ministers stay here at the house for a few nights.  Brandon plays my much neglected guitar and Harold got out his violin, beautiful!

It snowed today, I forgot how beautiful snow can be.  I kind of miss the months of snow we would have up in Estacada.

Well, short and sweet to get me going. :)
